IRISH COFFEE RECIPE - Brown Bear Coffee

IRISH COFFEE RECIPE

Irish Coffee

Irish Coffee

What better way to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, than with a traditional Irish drink that’s incredibly easy to make and moreishly tasty. Originally created by Joe Sheridan (a head chef in Foynes, County Limerick) for American passengers waiting to board a plane on a miserable winter’s evening in the 1940’s, this unbeatable combination of coffee, cream and whiskey is now enjoyed by many across the world.

THE RECIPE

You’ll need:

  • A cup of your favourite Brown Bear coffee (We used Cub Espresso)
  • 1 Teaspoon Brown Sugar (White is fine too)
  • 1 ‘glug’ of Irish Whiskey – around 50ml
  • Double Cream (Lightly whipped)
  • Glass/Mug to serve – traditionally, Irish Coffee is made in a stemmed mug or glass

How to Make:

  1. Brew your cup o’ coffee using your preferred method.
  2. Warm your glass (to prevent cracking) and then fill it around 3/4 with the coffee.
  3. Dissolve the sugar in the coffee.
  4. Add whiskey.
  5. Top with the whipped cream. You can alternatively just pour the double cream on top of the drink using the back of spoon to help.
  6. Drink and enjoy…Slainte!

If you fancy mixing things up a bit, you can replace the whiskey with a good glug of Baileys. Chocolate (in any form) also works really well with Irish Coffee.
