Coffee in Vietnam is dark roasted for a strong, robust flavour, then often brewed using French Press or the iconic phin cà phê metallic drip filter that brews directly into the cup, then sweetened condensed milk is added to temper the strong brew and creates the original Vietnamese-style coffee including cà phê đen đá, cà phê sữa đá, cà phê đen nóng, cà phê sữa nóng and cà phê dừa.
How to brew Vietnamese Coffee: 1) What you need to brew Vietnamese-style coffee: coarse ground Vietnamese dark roast coffee, boiling water, sweetened condensed milk, a phin ca phe drip filter or French press cafetiere. 2) Pour 1-2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk into the bottom of your glass or cup, which creates the sweet base for your coffee. 3) Boil the water and let it cool down for 30 seconds to just below boiling point.
How to brew Vietnamese Coffee: 4) Measure out 2-3 tablespoons of coarsely ground coffee and add to the phin ca phe drip filter or French press. 5) Press the grounds down gently using the top screen of the phinphe to ensure they're flat and even.
How to brew Vietnamese Coffee: 6) Pour just enough hot water into the phin to cover the coffee grounds and let the coffee grounds bloom for 20 seconds. 7) The, fill to the top of the phin with hot water, place the lid on the phin and allow the coffee to drip slowly through into the glass or cup, which takes between 4 to 6 minutes.
How to brew Vietnamese Coffee: 8) Once the coffee has fully dripped through, stir it well with the sweetened condensed milk to create authentic Vietnamese Coffee. 9) For iced coffee, after brewing, simply add ice cubes and stir. 10) If you prefer strong black coffee, just skip the condensed milk and enjoy the robust flavour of Vietnamese coffee on its own.

Coffee Beans
Brown Bear’s freshly roasted coffee beans are packed and heat-sealed into our coffee bags to keep the beany goodness and flavour inside. Ensure you have a quality grinder to get the most out of our coffee.
Check out our coffee guide under About Us for some great how to guides.
Cafetière & Filter
Our fresh, pre-ground coffee is a simple, convenient option if you don’t have a home grinder. The coffee grind coarseness (our Omni grind) is perfect for cafetières (French press), and drip filters and can also be used in the Aeropress, Moka pots and coffee percolators. We’d always recommend whole beans for absolute freshness but if you do opt for pre-ground, it’s always best to keep them in an airtight container, away from light and use them as quickly as possible.
I've been using brownbear beans for a few years now and over the last twelve months explored many other online brands that were by far not the same quality as Brown Bear.
The crema from this new Vietnam Ca Phe Highlands coffee bean is unreal and oh how I have I made such a big mistake exploring other brands trying to find coffee beans that meet the same quality and taste as Brown Bear when my initial experience with this brand has been faultless. I Love these new beans they are simply out of this world.
Rich smooth beans that I grind and then brew using a Baletti stove top expresso maker. A satisfying cup of coffee as good as many barista brewed and certainly much better than Costa or the like.
I tried Brown Bear Vietnamese beans after watching a live blog and they said it helped them be productive during the day - OMG, it does work and it has a nice smooth taste . Its my new fav coffee bean and i have tried a few. Nothing like a cuppa surfing the net.
This coffee is a real taste of Vietnam, and brilliant to serve ice cold, or with a pop of coconut cream. Deep robusta flavours that are so different to the usual British supermarket offers. Great price too for 1Kg of beans.
Wow, full of flavour and nice and strong.
I will buy more and I truly have found the best coffee in the UK. Keep up the hard work Brown Bear a d thanks for the Awesome coffee best in the UK xx
Tasty coffee, would give five stars if it was slightly less darkly roasted as there is a bit of a burnt taste that overpowers the good chocolatey flavours. Excellent value for a 1kg bag though so keep up the good work!
I've actually been to Vietnam a few timesand fell in love with certain types of their coffee. Unfortunately I wasn't too keen on this coffee. I am a bit of a coffee snob and like my coffee strong smooth and mellow. I actually thought this coffee lacked body. I found myself adding 2 shots but it still didn't bring the flavour I wanted. 😕
After enjoying some Vietnamese coffee whilst on holiday, I brought some coffee back with me, but only a small bag. When it had all gone I searched the internet (as you do !) and found Brown Bear Vietnam Ca Phe Highlands coffee, so I thought i'd give it a try, and i'm so glad i did.
It was a bit trial and error to start with, but i'm now settled on about 17g coffee per cup and leave it for 4.5 minutes to brew in a cafetiere. Lovely taste, not too strong and certainly not bitter. By the way I drink it black. Coffee, water and nothing else !
It's going to be interesting to see how long a KG lasts for !
Try it you wont be dissapointed.
Had the same coffee in Vietnam recently and this doesn't have the same smell or flavour at all. Is it perhaps too old? Perhaps misbranded? I don't know.
Having just returned from two weeks in Vietnam and really enjoyed Vietnamese coffee I thought I ought to buy some in this country. Very glad that I found Brown Bear, absolutely delicious and will certainly be buying more.
